Tommy Camp, a native of Newnan, Georgia, was educated at West Georgia College and the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He served as Minister of Music at First Baptist Church in Headland, Alabama, Waldrop Memorial Baptist in Columbus and Flat Creek Baptist in Fayetteville before coming to Mount Vernon in 1979 as bi-vocational Minister of Music. He was sports editor of the Fayette County News (1978-82), the LaGrange Daily News (1982-98), the Newnan Times-Herald (1998-2011) and the Troup County News (2011-14) during which time he won a number of awards from the Associated Press, the Georgia Press Association and the Georgia Sports Writers Association including being named Best Columnist for his paper's classification ten times. He was married to his wife Carole for 52 years before she went home to be with Jesus in March of 2020. They have two children, Adam Camp of LaGrange and Meredith Breland of Birmingham, Alabama and six grandchildren.
