We welcome Dr. Kenneth "Lou" Koon and his wife Sherry to
Mt. Vernon Baptist Church (MVBC)
Lou Koon known to some as Ken Koon completed his final chaplain assignment as a Lieutenant Colonel with the US Army Reserves this past December. He has served for the past 10 years as the subject matter expert in suicide intervention for the Army and as a consultant to the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health.
In 2012 he founded Armed Forces Mission and the Intervene Challenge, more than 22,000 individuals have participated in the training that saves lives based on his book Listen Learn Lead. In 2018 he was inducted into the University of North Georgia Alumni Hall of Fame for his work in conducting more than 1,600 successful suicide interventions in both military and civilian communities. Lou earned his MDIV degree at Southeastern Baptist Seminary and his Doctorate in Pastoral Counseling at Master’s School of Divinity.
He has served churches in Virginia, North Carolina, and Georgia. He and Sherry celebrated 36 years of marriage in June. They have four grown sons, five grandchildren and another due in September.
